Hearts to Ripon's Michael Krause, whose 1946 military jeep was featured on the front page of last week's Commonwealth. Krause invited Ripon's veterans to sign the jeep, which transported some of them in the Memorial Day parade for the second time. "Last year I saw how happy some of the old timers were just to see a jeep again and it put a smile on my face to see them happy," Krause said. "I went to a VFW meeting and told them, 'I was never in the military' but I was asked by Norm [Rasske] to have the jeep in the parade and if they would like for me to have my 1948 Chevy one-and-a-half ton truck also in the parade to haul some of the old timers that don't want to walk, I would be happy to do that also. They all were very helpful and thought it was a great idea." After Krause and his sons painted the jeep the week before the parade, they added lettering and a military-looking star. Krause also built benches and added the Air Force star on the doors of the '48.
